Garber’s Interior Design to close

ELKHART, Ind.—Garber’s Interior Design, a specialty home accents and design service firm located in Elkhart, Ind., is closing at the end of the month.

The death of co-owner Jonathan Tuff last year and health complications of Jonathan’s sister and majority owner Cynthia Tuff, made it impossible to execute the large remodel and design projects needed to sustain the 10,000 square-foot showroom, principal Brad Priest told Home Accents Today.

Priest said he plans to open his own, smaller retail store that will focus on home décor, gifts and gourmet.

Garber’s has been operating as a local Elkhart, Ind., business since 1935 when Samuel and Florence Garber opened a paint store on Main Street. The Tuffs became the fifth set of owners in 2007 when they heard the Main Street institution was going out of business. They recognized the strength of the brand and decided to keep the name. The business moved to its Elkhart location in 2011.

The store, which has been one of Home Accent Today’s Retail Stars, was known for its regular Facebook Live sessions every Saturday morning that invited followers to chat with the “Garber Boys,” type in questions, shop, say ‘hi’ to each other and see all the new items available in the store and online. Priest and Tuff were also regulars at Las Vegas Market and other industry trade shows.

Editor-in-Chief Allison Zisko first joined HFN in 1998 and spent many years covering the tabletop category before widening her scope to all home furnishings. In her current role, she oversees all aspects of HFN, including its print and digital products, and represents the brand at home and abroad through presentations, panel discussions and HFN’s podcast, The Inside Scoop.
