Ross’ store count gaining steadily on TJMaxx and Marshalls footprints

Dublin, Calif. – There are now more Ross Stores Inc. units in the U.S. than those carrying the T.J. Maxx or Marshalls banners – although the combined Marmaxx group of stores is larger.

Ross passed a milestone with the recent completion of 40 new store openings with the launch of its 2,000th location. Recent launches included 28 Ross Dress for Less stores and 12 dd’s Discounts across 21 states in September and October.

Ross Stores Inc.The company added 99 stores this year. Together, Ross Dress for Less and dd’s Discount now operate 2,019 off-price apparel and home fashion stores in 40 states, the District of Columbia, and Guam.

As of July 30, rival TJX Cos. operated 1,290 T.J. Maxx and 1,155 Marshalls stores in the U.S. The company also has 862 HomeGoods and 40 Homesense stores in the U.S. along with 62 Sierra stores.

Off-pricer Burlington Stores reported 877 stores in the U.S. and Puerto Rico as of August.

“In addition to openings in California, Florida and Texas, Ross strengthened its presence in Ohio while dd’s bolstered its store base in Illinois,” said Gregg McGillis, Ross Stores’ group executive VP of property development.

Looking ahead, the company sees the opportunity to grow to at least 2,900 Ross Dress for Less and 700 dd’s Discounts locations over time.
