Picture this: Can a quick snapshot find dreamy décor at Walmart?

BENTONVILLE, Ark. — With the rollout last week of TrendGetter, Walmart is hoping it can make a shopper’s search for his or her desired purchase a little easier, just by uploading an image.

Using Google Vision image recognition technology, users of TrendGetter can search through Walmart’s catalog of products, both from the company and its third-party vendors, based on an image of an item they like. This includes home décor, furniture and bedding products.

According to an online post by Casey Schlaybaugh, Walmart’s vice president of brand strategy and marketing, consumers who find something they admire, whether it’s on an influencer’s Instagram, from a TikTok video or elsewhere, need only upload a photo, and the TrendGetter tool will search through Walmart.com for similar products.

The process takes seconds once a photo is uploaded. For best results, tips suggested on the TrendGetter.com page include featuring a single item, shown in a close up, and avoiding dark or shadowy images. Images that are unclear or deemed inappropriate may result in a “choose a different image” response.

When the search is completed, shoppers will receive a “see what we found for you” message with a link to shop the trend.
