Luxury textile manufacturer targets 21st century as it launches DTC furniture line

Scalamandre is offering a DTC option for furniture covered with digitally reproduced Scalamandre classic textiles.

NEW YORK — Venerable luxury textile and trim manufacturer, Scalamandré, founded in 1929, is navigating a new 21st-century sales channel by offering select upholstered products directly to consumers through its collaboration with Cloth & Company.

The Red from Scalamandré’s collection includes upholstered beds, benches, chairs, ottomans, screens and pillows that will be offered in 14 prints from the House of Scalamandré’s archives, digitally recreated by Cloth and Company and produced by the company in Chicago.

Exclusively available at Scalamandré the company’s first full direct-to-consumer furniture collection marks a huge shift in the brand’s strategy, targeting a new generation of consumers to own the bold prints that have made Scalamandré  so iconic, according to the company.

The textiles include those produced by Scalamandré from the 1940s to the 1990s, including a digital version of its iconic dancing zebras. Cloth & Company is using its digital printing capabilities and 3-D rendering technology to produce the line. Items are available to ship in three weeks. Prices will range from $117 to $171 for pillows and furniture will run from $280 to $2,260.
