NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. — Barton Bienenstock died last month at the age of 92. He was past president of the American Furniture Hall of Fame (now the American Home Furnishings Hall of Fame Foundation) and a founding director of the Bernice Bienenstock Furniture Library.

Bienenstock was also well known as a long-time publisher of Furniture World magazine, taking the role in 1956 and following in the footsteps of his father, N.I. “Sandy” Bienenstock. His son, Russell, has continued the family tradition.

During his career, Bienenstock received numerous awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Greater New York Home Furnishings Assn., the Meadoff Award for Sportsmanship and the NCCJ Brotherhood Award.

Prior to his career in the furniture industry, Bienenstock attended North Carolina State University’s furniture manufacturing and management course and also served in the U.S. Coast Guard.

Vicky Jarrett has worked with various furniture industry publications — including Furniture Today, Retail Ideas, Our State magazine and Casual Living — for more than 20 years and rejoined Furniture Today as Managing Editor in 2016.
